Carolyn Jamerson, Study Collections Manager and Mount Maker, FIDM Museum and Galleries
Carolyn Jamerson will conduct a presentation and workshop on three different techniques for creating “invisible” garment mounts: plastic forms, wire armature, and polyester felt. These different materials can be used to create mounts that fully support most garment types and, depending on long-term requirements, can work for both exhibition and storage needs. See the Costume Society of America’s website, www.costumesocietyamerica.com, for more information.

Kevin Jones, Curator, FIDM Museum and Galleries
Kevin Jones, FIDM Museum Curator and co-curator of the exhibition High Style: Betsy Bloomingdale and the Haute Couture, will present insights and behind-the-scenes aspects of the creation of this award-winning exhibition celebrating donations of more than 100 haute couture garments to the FIDM Museum over thirty years by Best Dressed Hall of Fame icon Betsy Bloomingdale. The exhibition describes the process of haute couture, showcases Mrs. Bloomingdale's favorite designers, and examines her personal fashion style and lifestyle.
The moulage is the foundation of the couture pattern drafting system taught by the Ecole Guerre-Lavigne in Paris. This is a system of measuring the figure, calculating, and drafting a pattern that will fit the torso like a second skin, incorporating any of the infinite variations of shape the human figure can take.
In this 3 day class with Kenneth King, after a series of measurements are taken, and calculations are done, you will draft a pattern that will fit like a second skin. Once you have this pattern (also called a sloper) you'll be able to alter commercial patterns to fit your body or add design details to this sloper to make your own original design.
Class is limited to 30 students. Cost $399 (includes lunch on Fri, Sat & Sun) ( Friends of PR and ATHM members pay $359 )

We are very pleased to showcase a series of paintings created for the ATHM by up and coming visual artist Camomile (Molly) Hixon, who exploded onto the New York art scene in 2010 with her collection of “sparkle” paintings on canvas using glitter as the primary medium.

For view in our TLC, the multi-talented Hixon created a series of glittering textile studies paintings of designer fabrics, as well as a series of vintage boy and girl paper doll paintings with outfits, paper tabs and all, to complement the Bloomingdale high fashion theme in our main galleries. Hixon’s work can also be seen this fall at the Tria Gallery, the El Taller Latin Cultural Center, and the Children’s Museum of Art in Manhattan, as feature artwork on the hit Bravo television show “Nine by Design”, and the Diane Birdsall Gallery in Old Lyme, Connecticut year’s end.
